The year 2020 marks the 30th anniversary of FishBase and 15th anniversary of SeaLifeBase, two online global biodiversity information systems that, together, provide biological and ecological information on more than 110,000 marine species.
To celebrate these milestones in the times of physical distancing, we have launched a year-long digital campaign that led up to September 2020, when we celebrated these anniversaries, and to September 2021, when we hope to get together in person at a symposium to be held during the 22nd FishBase Consortium Meeting.
In the next few months, users of FishBase, SeaLifeBase and the Sea Around Us will enjoy a number of multimedia publications aimed at highlighting the contributions and value of the celebrated global species databases to the scientific community and the public at large.
From videos to audios, to written articles and infographics, users will be able to learn more about the origins of FishBase and SeaLifeBase, their evolution, the people in front and behind the scenes that brought these projects to life and how these resources were utilized and found valuable by students, researchers, fisheries managers, NGOs and more.
We hope you join us in this year-long celebration and enjoy the bounty of content that we will be sharing.
