An annual list of marine fish and bivalves that serves as a guide to German consumers on what they can purchase and eat with a clear conscience –those currently with large and healthy population sizes and are fished sustainably, or in short, the ‘good fish‘, was recently published as a result of a successful collaboration among GEOMAR, the German Consumer Agency and several NGOs.
Only ‘good fish’ belongs to the table
“I personally think this is an excellent example of ‘applied knowledge transfer’ from scientists to consumers,” says Dr Rainer Froese (Senior Scientist, GEOMAR). “The list is aimed at the German market, but similar joint lists could be envisioned for other countries,” he added.
