Participating to present the “Role and impact of China on world fisheries and aquaculture”, a report commissioned by the European Parliament’s Committee of Fisheries, Dr Daniel Pauly (FishBase pioneer and the Sea Around Us‘ Principal Investigator) and Dr Ma. Lourdes ‘Deng’ Palomares (Sea Around Us’ Program Manager and the Science Director of Q-quatics) give a review of China’s mariculture and marine fisheries. The study mainly focused on the operations of its distant water fleets on six countries where Chinese vessels compete with European fishing fleets, namely, Mauritania, Senegal, Madagascar, Mauritius, Ecuador and the Solomon Islands.
