World Oceans Day serves as a unifying occasion for individuals from all across the globe to gather and celebrate the value of the oceans. For Q-quatics, this took on profound significance as they embarked on a momentous journey, engaging with esteemed delegates from the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman and exploring the vast potential for collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources of Oman and Q-quatics.
On June 8th of 2023, His Excellency Ambassador Eng. Nasser Al Manwari, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of the Philippines and his colleague Mr. Ahmed Ghazal paid a visit to Q-quatics’ office in Los Baños, Laguna. They were warmly received by the management and staff of Q-quatics led by our Executive Director, Dr. Mary Ann P. Bimbao. In attendance during this meeting are Q-quatics theme leads namely, Ms. Emily Capuli (Taxonomy), Ms. Josephine Barile (Information Technology), and Ms. Susan Luna (Traits), together with Ms. Kathleen Reyes (EcoScope and AquaMaps coordinator) Ms. Patricia Yap (faunal work coordinator). The group engaged in insightful discussions, exploring potential areas of collaboration, with a particular focus on fisheries management, marine biodiversity conservation, aquaculture development, and capacity building. His Excellency’s visit fostered ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources of Oman and Q-quatics on the status of Oman’s fisheries information and how access to more data from FishBase, SeaLifeBase and the Sea Around Us will enhance the country’s catch categories.
This meeting signifies an emblem of international collaboration towards the conservation and sustainable management of our oceans and its vast resources. World Oceans Day 2023 marks the beginning of a promising path towards shared goals and endeavors between Q-quatics and Oman.
