Nicolas Bailly (PhD), Taxonomy Coordinator

Dr Nicolas Bailly is Q-quatics’ Taxonomy Coordinator. He was formerly employed at the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) in Paris where he started to develop his experience in Biodiversity Informatics. He helped organize the FishBase Consortium in 2000 and became Chair years later (2004-2005). He joined WorldFish as the FishBase Project Manager (2005-2014) and worked with the LifeWatchGreece Team at the Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC), Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), Greece (2014-2016). He joined the University of British Columbia in 2019, as the Fish Collection Manager at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum (UBC BBM), and as a Biodiversity Informatics Scientist of the Sea Around Us team at the Institute for Oceans and Fisheries (UBC IOF). He was member of the steering committees of several international database initiatives such as the Catalogue of Life (COL), Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS), World Register of Marine Societies (WoRMS), and scientific societies i.e., Société Française d’Ichtyologie and Société Française de Systématique.
