Roles and Responsibilities
Quantitative Aquatics, Inc. seeks two Research Assistants with the following responsibilities to work in DigIn (Documenting Marine Biodiversity through Digitization of Invertebrate Collections), a project funded by the National Science Foundation of the United States of America in collaboration with the Florida Museum (University of Florida) ending in October 2024.
The primary function of the job is to perform geolocalisation of specimens which means assigning geocoordinates (latitude, longitude) from the description of the collection event locality. The work will be performed using a dedicated software that is provided by the project named GeoLocate. About 20 U.S. natural history museums have digitized (or are digitizing during the project) the information about the specimens of marine invertebrates in their collections.
- Extract and standardize the textual information about the locality of the collection events provided by the curators of the collection (in excel, csv or other equivalent formats;
- Upload the datasets in GeoLocate and assign the geocoordinates (latitude, longitude) from the textual description of the collection event locality; GeoLocate has many functionalities to perform this task;
- Interact with the collection curators to clarify the textual information they digitized;
- Help the curators to download their georeferenced datasets;
- Assist other team members with the tasks at hand;
- Participate in teleconferences, sometimes during extra-working hours; and
- Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Team Leader.

Minimum Qualifications
BS Geography, BS Fisheries, or BS Biology (preferably major in Zoology, Ecology, Wildlife or Systematics)
- Knowledge of marine geography with GIS skills is preferred;
- General knowledge of aquatic biodiversity and taxonomy is a plus;
- Proficient knowledge of computer software, e.g., MS Office applications, especially MS-Excel; good knowledge of MS-Access is a plus;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to details;
- Good communication skills both written and verbal English;
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment; and
- Could work effectively with minimum supervision, good time management skills and high degree of initiative and resourcefulness.

Quantitative Aquatics, Inc. seeks an Artist Assistant with the following responsibilities:
- Encode and edit fish pictures in FishBase as a primary function;
- Search and obtain fish pictures from different sources (print and online);
- Interact and communicate with photo contributors and collaborators;
- Keep integrity of fish pictures inventory in FishBase;
- Create visual concepts captured in logos, illustrations, layouts, powerpoint presentations, etc; and
- Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.
New graduates will learn a highly useable photo editing skill and are encouraged to apply.
